Once your ad is online or in the paper, expect to receive inquiries almost immediately. Make sure that you're prepared for buyers calling you and asking for details on your car. Nothing puts off a buyer more than asking questions and not getting any answers. To make sure that you're prepared, keep a list of your car's specifications and pertinent details in your wallet, purse, or pocket at all times in case someone calls while you're out and about. There's nothing worse than getting a call and being unable to discuss the car with an interested buyer, and it will definitely make a bad impression on the buyer.
If you don't want to provide your phone number in the ad, make sure you put in an email address that you check frequently. However, it is generally not recommended that you limit all communication to email. Though we live in the information age, when it comes to cars, people prefer speaking with you directly. Hiding behind your email address may come off as being secretive or that you're trying to hide something. So, it is best to provide a phone number since a buyer is more likely to want to discuss the car with you directly.
When someone does call, don't go straight into negotiations. Answer their questions concisely and politely, but if they start trying to negotiate the price down, ask them if they'd like to test drive the car first, or at least see it in person. You're more likely to get the price you want if you talk to them in person, and if they can see what a great car it is, they will probably be more willing to pay your asking price. |
